Pumpkin!
“Why of course the people don’t want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don’t want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” - Hermann Göring in an interview with Gustave Gilbert in Göring’s jail cell during the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials (18 April 1946)
Earlier today, on my way to work, a couple of young kids were handing out leaflets and as usual, I got one! Front page was a painting of a smiling black couple sitting next to a pile of apples and pumpkins! At first, I thought it was one of those charity stuff for Africa, but then I saw the moose in the background! Yes, a moose! I looked at the back: “Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania“! It turned out to be about Armageddon! Six pages of quotes from the Bible, titled “All Suffering Soon To End!,” it was about how all the suffering from “wars, poverty, disasters, crime, injustice, sickness and death” were to end “very soon!” and that we were “nearing the end of man’s tragic experiment in independance from God.”
I’m not really in the mood to argue with Mr Jesus today, so I’m going to leave the conclusion to you. Which one sounds more realistic? What Hermann Göring said or what Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania says?!
