HomeCamera!
Now, this is fun! I remember MJeepZ used to connect his webcam, point it at the door and leave the house. Then log into his Yahoo account (or something like that) to see if burglars show up! Well, I’ve found a website that does all that and I’ve been asked to post a fair and impartial review…
HomeCamera offers a free home surveillance service that allows you to connect to your webcams at any given time using your PC, PDA and mobile phones (depending on your contract). Basically, it works as your online surveillance room in which you can control your installed cameras. If motion sensors detect anything, you will receive Mobile and/or eMail alerts. Depending on your preferences, this could be a photo, video or a simple text message. You can then log into your account and see what’s going on! Meanwhile you can have the auto report option to save you a copy so that it can be used later. Of course, in order to get mobile alerts you are going to have to buy credits for a very cheap price (100 credits for $5.5, 200 for $10.5 and 300 for $15.5). eMail alerts however, are free and just as good!
HomeCamera website looks clean and sharp and nowhere near MySpace!!! Menus are easy to navigate and it’s easy to access all the features. The camera software itself is also very user friendly. Installation is pretty strait forward and so is its configuration. Video quality is crisp and clear. But that depends on your Internet speed and camera, of course. Apart from the knowledge base and FAQs, there is also a 24/7 telephone and eMail support available.
Over all, I find HomeCamera very interesting. It’s especially useful to MJeepZ who’s off to Canada this Weekend. He won’t have to log in randomly and hope that burglars will knock on the door at the exact same time!!! Instead, he can have HomeCamera give him a heads up if his LCD TV is being stolen! Muhuhahah!
