The 2007 Solar Decathlon!
Twenty years ago, having a solar powered water heater was considered to be for either hippies or geeks! Nowadays, with the exception of China and Israel, it’s more like a work in progress. People tend to accept it as yet another fancy piece of technology. When you see a traffic light using solar panels every once in a while, you think “oh, that’s cool!” But in twenty years time, the Sun is going to become one of our main sources of energy and solar powered stuff around you will become as normal and ordinary as mobile phones are nowadays!
From 11th to 19th of October this year, the third Solar Decathlon, sponsored by BP and US Department of Energy, will take place in Washington, D.C. Twenty teams, from colleges and universities around the globe, participate in an unparalleled solar competition to design, build and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered home. BP Solar Decathlon Blog will be providing live updates throughout the competition. You can also find general information about the event (maps, schedule, etc.) as well as brief details about competing teams on their blog.
I will be updating this post with the result of this year’s competition. Meanwhile, if you’ll please excuse me, I need to go and plant a couple of trees to have something to talk about next Monday!
UPDATE: TU Darmstadt from Deutschland wins!
